Italian summer
Virgin Express travellers can now enjoy the sultry delights of southern Italy. We already offer direct flights to Catania and Palermo, on the enchanting isle of Sicily, but since March we have been offering flights to the airports of Bari/Puglia and Naples. This is not only perfect for Italians wanting to visit Belgium, but also a great opportunity for Belgium-based customers to explore these spectacular coastal regions located on the east and west of Italy’s “foot”. Check out our Bari destination guide (page 103) to find out more about the gorgeous beaches and cultural highlights of this region and read our Naples guide (page 130) to discover more about this city, which is conveniently close to the breathtakingly beautiful Amalficoast and the incredible ancient city of Pompeii. There will be three weekly flights to Bari for as little as €49.99 (incl. taxes, one way) in July, departing Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. In August this will rise to four weekly flights with an additional Friday service. There will be four weekly flights to Naples during June, July and August. Bookings can be made via www.VirginExpress.com

Côte d’Azur via Marseille
Virgin Express now offers direct flights from Brussels to Marseille, operated by SN Brussels Airlines, which replaces the service to Toulon. There will be daily flights to Marseille for as little as €49.99 (incl. taxes, one way).

Now Virgin Express customers can really make the most of the Côte D’Azur. Why not fly into Nice, hire a Hertz car and take a scenic Riviera route, taking in the gorgeous beaches and picturesque Provençal towns of Antibes, Cannes, Saint-Tropez and Hyères and then depart from Marseille airport? Alternatively visit Marseille and enjoy the many coastal delights including prehistoric underwater caves, gorgeous hill-top villas and, at this time of year, musical festivals galore. Wings of peace

A Virgin Express Boeing 737 is sending out a message of peace and understanding as it flies through the skies of Europe. The message on the plane’s fuselage is an artwork entitled Speechless by photographer Jan Keteleer. It comprises six black-and-white photographs of Virgin Express employees who are demonstrating six words in sign language; which together form the Arab proverb “Understanding is the cradle of civilisation”. It is intended to convey the positive notion that people from different backgrounds can live together in peace and harmony. Keteleer was keen to work with Virgin Express because of the enormous variety of nationalities across the company.

Around 70 staff worked on the project, which was sponsored by Deloitte, and the remaining portraits will be used on a series of 12 posters. Virgin Express CEO Neil Burrows says, “Our staff covers a huge variety of different ages and backgrounds. Even if we differ from each other in nationality, skin colour, religion or mother tongue, we still prove every day that cooperation and mutual respect enable us to reach a common goal, namely providing a prime service to our customers. That is why Virgin Express wants to support this project with a positive, self-willed vision on today’s society.”

Dear Sir/Madam,
On a recent flight to Valencia, my partner celebrated his 40th birthday and the cabin crew couldn’t have been nicer or more generous. They made a lovely announcement for him. We normally fly with Iberia airlines, but in the future we’ll choose Virgin Express. Just a quick tip, please ensure there is enough tomato juice on board. As an ex-flight attendant and purser I know it’s a popular, frequently ordered drink!

Dear Virgin Express,
We flew with Virgin Express from Brussels to Djerba, Tunisia, seven years ago when we lived in Germany. Now we’ve moved from Canada (we are Canadians) to the Mons area of Belgium and will live here for the next three years. Our recent flight to Palma was excellent. We paid for extra leg room, also great! Now we’re planning a trip to Faro, Portugal. We’re very impressed with your service!

Hello,
I’d like to thank Virgin Express for the effort you’ve made for me. On 10 February I left my bag on the Barcelona Aerobus. The girl at the baggage counter immediately phoned the bus company and picked my bag up one hour later, and put it on the next flight to Brussels. Please thank that girl! When I arrived in Brussels the Virgin Express staff already knew my “problem” and assisted me in reclaiming it the next day. Super.

The follow-up service was great too. Three days later, Barcelona called to check that I had received my bag intact and complete – I had. This was the first time I flew with Virgin Express and I never expected that a “low-cost” airline would make such an effort for its customers! Again, thank you very much! Another happy customer,
Erwin Plessers (Hamont-Achel, Belgium)
