1 - Puro Beach – Palma de Mallorca
Pagell, Cala Estancia 1, Palma de Mallorca, tel: +34 971 744 744 www.purobeach.com
This über-chic restaurant-cum-bar and spa is open all the year round but really shines in summer. Located on its own private promontory with a terrace pool overlooking the sea, it is an extension of the Puro Hotel concept, a design hotels member. The laid-back atmosphere was inspired by Swedish creator-entrepreneur Mats Wahlström’s travels in Africa and India. Guests can spend an entire day posing about this stylish paradise, from 9am yoga through to spa treatments, from lunch to dinner and evening cocktails.
2 - Strandbar Mitte – Berlin
Monbijou Park, Monbijoustrasse 3, Berlin-Mitte www.strandbar-mitte.de
You can even find beach bars in the city – Berlin has around ten dotted along the banks of the Spree river. Strandbar Mitte is opposite Museum Island and open daily from 10am. Deck-chair lizards sup cocktails and beers and are even treated to open-air performances of Shakespeare. For an artier, edgier scene, try Strandbar’s sister bar Oststrand, on Mühlenstrasse behind the East Side Gallery in Berlin’s reinvigorated Osthafen docklands area. Even in the city life’s a beach.
3 - Sea Lounge– Monte Carlo
Monte-Carlo Beach Hotel, tel: +377 98 06 54 54 www.montecarloresort.com
One of Monte Carlo’s best-kept secrets is the palm-fringed Sea Lounge. Asiatic-inspired landscaping and white sofas below sun-shielding canopies create a serene scene. Pretty girls and boys sip healthy juices and chill to the music. Forget the Monaco you know with the Bentleys and the bling. This is another way of living haut de gamme: kaftans, flip-flops and designer bikinis. It’s the only place in town where food and drinks are served so close to the sea and the mood is so casual. Be sure to make time for a delicious dip in the hotel pool.
4 - Nikki Beach – St-Tropez
Route de L’epi, 83350, Plage de Pampelonne, Ramatuelle, Côte d’Azur, France tel: +33 (0)4 94 79 82 04 www.nikkibeach.com
Don’t be surprised to spot the likes of Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford or Bono leaving their yachts to arrive at this stylish oasis in Saint-Tropez. Everyone may rave about the legendary Club 55 a little further along the same stretch of sand, but this is our preferred hangout. Who can resist those daybeds draped in white linen? Sup rosé and admire the beautiful bodies and consider whether you are, in fact, in heaven.
5 - Puro Beach –Estepona, near Malaga
Laguna Village, Ctra de Cádiz, KM159 Playa del Padron, Estepona www.purobeach.com
This June sees the opening of their sister seaside hangout, Puro Beach Marbella, located on the premises of Laguna Village not far from glitzy Puerto Banus in Spain. The new beach bar, complete with outdoor and indoor restaurant plus pool, has been designed in a Balinese Polynesian style. Sunrise yoga sessions benefit from stunning views of North Africa and Gibraltar. Afterwards grab a Nomad tent and relax, dining from the menu of fresh seafood, burgers and salads. Don’t forget to wear your sexiest beach gear.
